WARDOGS Game Mode: Control Zone & Hot Zone Explained
WARDOGS uses a three-team mode inspired by King of the Hill. A randomized 2x2 km Control Zone appears within the larger battlefield; every 30 seconds, the team with the most players inside earns one point, and the first team to 100 wins. The separate Hot Zone is an opportunity that official descriptions say can pay double cash.
How the Control Zone works
The active objective is a 2x2 km area whose location can change between matches. Up to 100 players across Valkyra, Lonestar and Manticore decide how to approach, reinforce or disrupt it.
The developer FAQ adds the scoring cadence: every 30 seconds, the side with the most players in the Control Zone receives one point. Reaching 100 points ends the match in that team's favor.
Map scale and randomized objectives
Team17 describes the 2x2 km objective inside a 256 km² battlefield, while the latest Steam copy refers more generally to larger maps. The useful distinction is that the scoring zone is only part of the available terrain.
A different zone location changes approach roads, helicopter routes, defensible structures, artillery angles and the value of a forward base. Strategies tied to one compound cannot be assumed to work in every match.
Control Zone versus Hot Zone
The Control Zone determines team scoring and victory. The Hot Zone is described as a place players can chase to earn double cash. The two names should not be used interchangeably.
A profitable side objective can strengthen later loadouts, but leaving the Control Zone also reduces your team's presence at the scoring objective. The decision is an economy-versus-pressure tradeoff rather than a separate match victory condition in the current description.
What the rules reward
Because player count inside the zone drives scoring, transport and survival can matter as much as individual kills. Helicopter pilots, medics, builders and logistics players can all increase the number of active teammates contesting the objective.
Construction can harden an approach, while rockets, armour and artillery can open it again. Persistent cash makes every expensive push a longer-term decision, especially when a cheaper support action can keep the team scoring.
